The Ocean County Newspaper
Digitization Preservation Project
We are currently in the process of digitizing many of Ocean County's newspaper archives, which will yield many of the resources needed to
bring you new articles.
This process will likely take many months to complete, which means that
our content will not be updated as often as we would like, so please bear with us as we work through this very important historical project.
As we approach our 2nd anniversary online, the OCCH would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this website a success. We have had much helpful feedback and have even connected with several people related to some of the stories presented here and it is our pleasure to continue to do so!

The Photographic Survey of Ocean County
Over the course of 2012 the OCCH embarked on a project to photograph Ocean County north to south and east to west.
The bulk of that project was
completed, but unfortunately just as the we moved to Long Beach
Island area, Super Storm Sandy hit and destroyed much of what was left to photograph. As a result the photographic survey was put on hold until our county recuperates and rebuilds.
Fortunately, the survey was completed from the southern tip of Island
Beach State Park to Point Pleasant, much of which was destroyed by
the storm, leaving us a photographic record of Island Beach, Seaside Park,
Seaside Heights, and the boardwalk, Ortley Beach, Lavallette, Normandy
Beach, Mantoloking, Bay Head, and Point Pleasant Beach.

Welcome to the OCCH!
Welcome to the Ocean County Compendium of History (OCCH). Here you
will find the history of Ocean County, New Jersey as told through stories and
photographs shared by those who have lived here both past and present.
This site will be posting those stories on a continuing basis, and will serve
as the compendium for all things Ocean County. Simply click on the Ocean County Stories link to access our article archive.
Since its founding in 1850, Ocean County has amassed a vast history that
includes local, state, national, and international interests. Prior to
its incorporation, Ocean County was part of Monmouth County, so you will also find history dating back to colonial times, as well as contemporary happenings.
