Ocean County mourns the passing on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, of former prosecutor, Daniel J. Carluccio, who died after a long battle with leukemia.  He was 70 years old.

“Dan” as he was known to his family and friends, was a partner in the law firm of Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks, LLC, formed after a stellar career as a Public Defender in both Burlington and Ocean Counties, and later as Ocean County Prosecutor, being appointed to that office in 1992 by Governor Jim Florio.

Mr. Carluccio also served as general counsel on the Atlantic City Casino Control Commission, was director of the New Jersey Authorities Unit, president of the Ocean County Bar Association, and was twice elected to the Democratic National Convention.

In 1982, he became one of the first attorneys to complete the New Jersey Supreme Court trial certification program in both civil and criminal law.

His efforts and work in the field of law were well honored, he being awarded in 2009 the Ocean County Bar Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the James McLaughlin Award for outstanding service as a trial attorney.  He was also named as a New Jersey Super Lawyer for six consecutive years.

Mr. Carluccio is survived by his wife Judith (Filker), his children Matthew and Michael, and grandchildren Leo and Roxanne.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Toms River Presbyterian Church.
